Living On Through Donation: Mario Medina’s Lasting Gift

Sandra Alicea Lozada

For Sandra Alicea Lozada, losing her son Mario Medina was the hardest experience of her life. A devoted son, uncle and constant source of support, Mario was always there when his family needed him.

When Mario renewed his ID, he proudly registered as an organ donor. After his passing at age 33, that decision gave four people a second chance at life.

While Sandra continues to navigate the pain of loss, she finds comfort in knowing that Mario’s legacy lives on through the lives he saved. With the support of Gift of Hope and the connection she feels to his recipients, she has found hope and healing in the midst of grief.

“Death is not the end,” Sandra says. “Through donation, your loved one lives on.”

Today, Sandra shares her story to encourage others to register as donors and to remind families that one selfless decision can create a lasting legacy of life.
