Our Hospital Development staff are your go-to resources for everything you need to know about organ and tissue donation. Working closely with your administrative, medical and clinical staff, as well as hospital committees, our team is on site regularly at your hospital. We help you ensure your team knows how to identify and refer potential donors, coordinate and conduct professional education programs, follow up on donation cases, and develop and continuously improve donation protocols. Together, we make organ and tissue donation and transplantation possible.

As one of 55 organ procurement organizations (OPOs) that make up the nation’s donation system, Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network works with 180 hospitals and serves more than 12 million people in Illinois and northwest Indiana. We are responsible for:

to evaluate potential donors for medical suitability at the time of death.
Providing support and resources to healthcare teams
to ensure everyone's prepardness when donation is an opportunity.
Coordinating the complex organ and tissue donation process
working closely with you and your staff, the donor’s next-of-kin, funeral directors, coroners, state's attorneys, and others involved when a death occurs and donation takes place.
Providing ongoing education
on roles, protocols and advances related to life-giving organ and tissue donation.

Join the HRSA DoNation campaign
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) encourages all hospitals and workplaces to join us in promoting life-giving organ and tissue donation.
Each year, HRSA recognizes hospitals and workplaces across the country for their participation in this campaign, and many hospitals work with Gift of Hope annually to earn this federal recognition.
