Sam Ho is Director of the Histocompatibility & Infectious Disease Testing Laboratory for Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network. The laboratory offers a wide range of clinical donor and recipient testing in the areas of histocompatibility, immunology, virology, chemistry, and point-of-care. He is responsible for the direction, operation and administration of the laboratory to ensure accurate testing and reporting of results for all aspects of services to support donation and transplantation activities.
Prior to joining Gift of Hope, Ho served as the Chief Laboratory Officer at Gift of Life Michigan in Ann Arbor. He is currently or has served as the consulting laboratory director for various institutions including the University of Michigan; Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield, Ill; Mid-America Transplant in St. Louis, Mo; Center for Organ Recovery & Education (CORE) in Pittsburgh, Pa; New Jersey Sharing Network in New Providence, N.J., and St. Louis University, Mo.
Ho is a Fellow of the American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ACHI) and a Fellow of the Association for Diagnostics and Laboratory Medicine (ADLM). He is an American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI)-certified professional and United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS)-approved histocompatibility laboratory director. He holds the laboratory director licensure from Florida, Hawaii, New Jersey, New York, and Tennessee. Currently, Ho serves on the Medical Advisory Board for Gift of Hope, Mid-America Transplant, CORE, and New Jersey Sharing Network.
Ho is the Program Director of the ASHI Accreditation Review Board (ARB), a member on the American College of Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics (ACHI) Board of Directors, Co-Chair of the ACHI Laboratory Director Exam Committee, and a member on the ASHI External Affairs Committee and National Clinical Affairs Committee. In addition, he serves as the Joint Commission Laboratory Accreditation Advisory Council member. He has been an active laboratory inspector for both ASHI and the College of American Pathologists (CAP) since 2010. Ho has given over 50 regional/national/international presentations and has over 60 scientific publications and 130 meeting abstract and presentations.
Ho is an adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in East Lansing, Mich. Previously, he was a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pathology at the University of Michigan Medical School. Ho earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and completed his post-doctoral fellowship training in transplant immunology at the University of Michigan Medical School.
