James B. Riley Jr. is a retired partner of the law firm of McGuireWoods LLP in Chicago. His practice encompassed general corporate and healthcare law including counseling clients on regulatory and policy, private equity and finance, merger and acquisition, and corporate compliance and governance matters.
Riley’s counseling of healthcare providers and companies focused on mergers and acquisitions, regulatory issues such as third-party reimbursement proceedings, fraud and abuse counseling, medical staff issues, corporate restructuring, managed care structuring issues, alternative delivery systems, and matters related to the Medicare program. His clients included hospitals and health systems, ambulatory care providers, multi-specialty and single-specialty medical practices, pharmaceutical companies and medical supply companies.
A recognized expert in his field, Riley has authored numerous articles and served as legal editor for several national health care magazines. He has spoken at programs sponsored by the America Health Lawyers Association, the Health Care Financial Management Association, the Renal Physicians Association and various state and regional associations. Riley has been named to The Best Lawyers in America, Illinois Super Lawyers, America’s Leading Lawyers for Business and the Leading Lawyer Network. He also has been involved in the not-for-profit community as a founder, Board of Directors member and President of Rebuilding Together North Suburban Chicago since 1996. He served as a board member of the American Kidney Fund and the Illinois Alliance for Aging. Riley served as Chairman of Gift of Hope’s Board of Directors. Mr. Riley has recently been named Vice Chair of the Gift of Hope Community Foundation Board of Directors.
Riley earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in accountancy and his JD degree from The George Washington University Law School in Washington, DC. He also earned a CPA certificate from the State of Illinois.
